DESCRIPTION:Begins July 4 @ 10:00 am – 12:30 pm PST by Zoom\n\nThe 2026 Summer Immersion focuses on developing a writing and reading of a symbolic incompleteness that persists not only across various mathematical and logical theories\, but in the practice of analysis itself. Unfortunately\, this incompleteness is often presented in a technical writing in the fields of mathematics and logic\, while left at the level of hermeneutics and mystery in psychoanalysis. Both being inaccessible to the nonspecialist. Our aim is to both de-codify and de-mystify this writing.\n\n\n\nTo accomplish this goal\, the Immersion often invites people who are noted in their respective fields to present their work to a ‘lay audience’\, not as an act of vulgarization\, but to raise questions and problems that may not have arisen in their intended applications. \n\nGiuseppe Longo\, a mathematician-logician\, researcher\, and director Emeritus at CNRS (Center national de la recherche scientifique) and ENS (École Normale Supérieure) in Paris\, has been invited to this Summer Immersion to present his work on the subject matter\, which in a first pass\, Prof. Longo calls “The Imperative Pythagoreanism in today’s technosciences”.\nGiuseppe Longo.  Interfaces of Incompleteness.  In Minati\, G\, Abram\, M & Pessa\, E (Eds.)\, Systemics of Incompleteness and Quasi-systems\, Springer\, New York\, NY\, 2018   (Incompleteness.pdf) \nGiuseppe Longo. Reflections on Concrete Incompleteness\, in Philosophia Mathematica\, 19(3): 255-280\, 2011.       (Incompl-PhiloMath.pdf) \nThe Summer Immersion is scheduled to meet every Saturday for four weeks. Some Sundays may be included depending on the motivation and time of those working in the Immersion.  Beginning the first weekend of July and ending the last weekend. \n\nThe Immersion is open to anyone with no prior background or experience\, just a certain persistence in working with others to clarify a reading and writing. All texts\, both original and published\, will be provided online. \nIf you care to register\, please do so early since the Immersion is limited to 15 people.
